Founding Engineer
Build Homio with the founder, from customer insight to production. Own the product and engineering decisions that help home cooks build businesses and customers order with confidence.
Homio is building a marketplace where California home cooks can turn their food into a business and customers can discover great meals close to home. Our ambition is to make home cooking a lasting part of the local food economy, starting with the people, trust, and everyday details that make a marketplace work.
This is a chance to shape both the product and the engineering foundation of a company from an early stage. You'll work directly with the founder: talk to cooks and customers, identify the problem worth solving, and carry the solution through design, implementation, launch, and iteration. Your judgment will influence what we build, how we build it, and the engineers we bring in next.
The work spans discovery, checkout and payments, cook tools, and marketplace operations, using React, TypeScript, Supabase/Postgres, and Stripe. There are real systems problems here: reliable payment reconciliation, clear order state, private customer data, and tools that make sense in a working kitchen. We want someone who enjoys shipping useful product quickly and takes the trust behind it seriously.

Responsibilities
- Own full-stack product work from customer discovery and a focused scope through implementation, production rollout, and feedback.
- Build intuitive customer and cook experiences alongside dependable APIs, database models, and payment integrations.
- Make practical architecture and build-versus-buy decisions that fit the company's stage and leave room for the marketplace to grow.
- Build quality into delivery through useful tests, clear reviews, observability, and careful security and reliability decisions, especially around payments and private data.
- Work with the founder to prioritize the roadmap, explain tradeoffs, and turn ambiguous problems into small, valuable releases.
- Help shape engineering hiring and a culture of thoughtful ownership, direct communication, and fast learning.
Qualifications
- You've shipped a product people use, can walk us through it, and can explain the decisions you owned across the stack.
- You're comfortable building with TypeScript, React, and relational databases, and can learn the unfamiliar parts of a system.
- You understand the care required for production systems: authorization, data modeling, retries, idempotency, and the failure cases around payments.
- You have product judgment, care about the details of the user experience, and want to talk directly with the people using what you build.
- You communicate clearly, know when to ask for input, and can balance speed with the quality a trusted marketplace needs.
